Chelsea Up For The Challenge

Chelsea’s summer signings are a step in the right direction. It is only Florent Malouda that has so far cost Chelsea any money and, judging by his performance in his new side’s first warm-up game against Mexican side Club America in which he scored the equaliser and made the winner for John Terry in the 2-1 victory, he’ll prove extremely good value for money.

His is, so far, the only inward transfer that Chelsea have paid for. The rest, Steve Sidwell, Claudio Pizarro and Tal Ben Haim – all classy players – have gone straight into the first team squad after moving to Stamford Bridge on free transfers.

As Chelsea have stated several times in the past three years, the eventual aim is for Chelsea to avoid dipping into the transfer money and instead, produce their own via the Academy in order that the overall Club expenditure is reduced.

What is good news for the future is that José Mourinho is giving young players like Jack Cork and Sam Hutchinson valuable experience, the pair maintaining their association with the 1st team by way of being included and playing on the Club’s tour of West Coast America.

Whilst the previous three years have seen Chelsea supporters suffer taunts of having ‘bought the Title’ etc, etc, it is Manchester Utd and, in particular, Liverpool, who have been spending big money in order to strengthen their squads.

We here at Chelsea are however, confident that José Mourinho’s squad will rise to the challenge in the forthcoming season and we are, again, at the start of another season on the glory trail.

Forward The Chelsea!
