Kenyon States The Case

Despite the fact hat the football season ended in May, as ever, the back
pages of many of the newspapers and reporting via other media outlets continued
to speculate about the future of John Terry and, in particular, Frank Lampard.
So, when the Chelsea Board meet at Cobham for the official opening of the state
of the art training facility, it was an ideal opportunity to put the record
straight.

Facing the world’s media, the Chief Executive put his and Chelsea’s
perspective on the so-called contract negotiations stating unequivocally that it
was the Club’s intention to ensure they stayed.

Despite the fact that the players at Chelsea are on weekly wages that most
who follow them would struggle to make in two, even three years, the supporters
do have sympathy for both Lampard and Terry.

The arrival of Andriy Shevchenko and Michael Ballack at the beginning of last
season saw the rumours start to emanate about the pair earning more per week
than the two established English stars. Both John Terry and Frank Lampard have,
since they started playing together at Stamford Bridge, become the ‘face’ of
Chelsea, since the arrival of Roman Abramovich.

Natural justice will, I hope, prevail and those with the purse strings at the
Club will reward those who have proved themselves to be Chelsea ‘through and
through’ and have expressed the required commitment and desire to continue
playing at Stamford Bridge.
