The Last Laugh
Its been a great off season for Spurs fans.
We are having the same arguements, with the same Chelsea and Arsenal Fans, in the same places. We WILL beat you next season! - You’re NOT that great!
This time there is a difference though.
This time the so called “Top 4″ are no longer convinced of their superiority over our ‘little team’. We have cemented our place at number 5 in the Premiership (Ladbrokes gives us 66/1 to win the league with Everton the closest behind us at 150/1!) and put together a team that finally demands respect and backs up the noise Spurs Fans have been relentlessly making for years. We seldom let any Top 4 club boss us this season and we have shown all the right signs that it will soon be the season we can finally have the last laugh!
So what are our chances next season? If asked my opinion, I believe that this will finally be the season we overtake Arsenal in the League and finish in the Top 4 – possibly even 3rd. I get scoffed at when I say this to people but my comments come not only from my heart and passion as a Spurs Fan but, from evidence I believe to be true!! Join me in donning a deerstalker hat and grab your smoking pipe as we look at the clues ……….
Our summer signings have been very positive and add essential re-inforcement to our over-played squad.
France’s U21 Captain & Central Defender ‘Younes Kaboul’ (far left) joins us from Auxerre for a reported 7.5M and looks to be the right man to help smooth over the Ledley King injury crisis. Described as a ‘rising star’ and very much the man to watch in his own Country, it may not be long before Younes moves infront of Ricardo Rocha in the 1st Team pecking order.
After much reported verbal ‘fisty-cuffs’ with Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea, 17 year old Left Back Wonder Kid ‘Gareth Bale’ (far right) signed on the blue and white line for alleged 10M. Gareth answers every Spurs Fans prayers for an out-and-out Left Back who has strength in all areas – The Yin to Chimbonda’s Yang! He re-affirms Tottenham’s promise to invest in quality youth players and our future as well as the present.
Perhaps the most controversial but none the less, a very strong signing is England International ‘Darren Bent’. Again, a signing made in a flurry of press attention and with many people after his name, Darren ended up costing a massive 16.5M. He is a great player to have and I don’t think anyone will debate that we are better for having him in the squad - he just has an awful lot to live up to after costing 6M more than the mighty Berbatov – a firm fan favourite. It remains to be seen what part he will play in the team with Berbs & Keane forming such a strong partnership but, with Bent and Defoe knocking on the door – it can only make them play better for their places!
Arsenal’s summer has been less than spectacular after loosing their El Capitan Tierry ‘vaa vaa voom’ Henry to Barcelona. They now have a season of coming to terms with their loss and trying to establish a new striker in that position. It is frightening to think how many times he has got them out of the smelly stuff this season and it remains to be seen if they will ever find someone who can do that for them now!
All we need now is to confirm a signing for our weak Left Midfield place and we have ourselves a team! With the start of the season rapidly approaching, there is still no news on who this might be and – we may have to start accepting the fact that we may not find one before the start of the season. If that is the only problem we have going into the start – it will still be a great deal less than Arsenal!
Last season saw us come very close to winning crucial games against Arsenal and Chelsea amongst others. I believe these summer signings will go alot of the way to bringing us over that hurdle. More players of this calabre also offer us a chance to strengthen the quality of the B teams we use in Cups & Lower League games that zap our resources for the main games.
We really do have a team that can make anything happen. We as Spurs Fans have a great season ahead of us!
Tell us your opinions! What do you think our chances are next season? Where do you predict we will finish and which team will have to come out of the Top 4 if you think it will be there?!
Who should fill that Left Winger spot (now we know who wont do it)!?
What is the correct pairing up front now Defoe is reported to be staying and we have Bent as well??!!
Good luck with the new season lads! COYS!
