Will Everton Face Cup Upset?

With Everton arriving for a Carling Cup game at Luton Town, there will be few pundits who will predict anything but a Toffees win. Sam Hollis feels the Everton players wont know what hits them when they arrive in the dank old surrounds of Kenilworth Rd and feels an upset could possibly beĀ around the corner.

Decrepit wasted and weakened by the infirmities of old age Kenilworth Road. You have to feel for us Hatters. In a footballing era where any other football league side would throw our beloved stadium in the scrapheap; Hatters fans have had to endure the 'historic' stands for far too long now.

How I long to support a team where after you leave you don't feel as if you've flown to Australia and back in anything but first class. I long not to fear for my life, every time I stand on the ageing wood of the main stand. In these uncertain time where our beloved club are languishing mid-table thanks to our unacceptable away form, i also long to have something to look at instead of those god-awful boxes. With Everton making their way to this stadium however; I wouldn't want the game to be played anywhere else.

This holding ground for Luton Town's finest football players could infact see the Hatters through to the quarter finals of the Carling Cup! I know I know, Everton are in fine form and going strong in Europe blah, blah, blah. But I put it to you bluntly, be forever the optimist. Kenilworth Road is the fortress that every club desires! These spoilt players will turn up in dressing room and hopefully it will take them back to their Sunday league days! It must be that, how else would we have the record we do here? This season is just following the last 10 years that I've been a fan and can remember my dad parking outside some poor family's house who must vacate every Saturday afternoon. I firmly believe we can beat anyone on home soil. Our home is one of the most intimidating arena's left in the game. Everton fans won't know what they've walked into (someone's house and over their garden I believe).

Steve Robinson stated on the club website "It's always nice to be playing the big teams at Kenilworth Road. The surface is always great for good football and obviously Everton being the class team they are will be knocking it about so it gives us the chance to test ourselves with nothing to lose." Erm; I think you're missing the point there Robbo, if we try to outplay them I fear a massacre with our recent form. "Hopefully it will be a decent crowd and they will get behind us."

That's more like it son! I always remember one of my favourite moments in football. Steven Gerrard, one of the countries finest players, sliding to keep the ball in under the main stand, and one loyal fan shouting right into the pitch side mic 'Gerrard – you're ****!'. Classic. And well avoided by John Motson I believe. It was nearly an upset then, and thanks to our beloved Road, it could be Wednesday night
