Champagne corks to pop as Avram Grant’ Chelsea delivers Roman the ultimate dream
Football FanCast columnist
Davis Lowe reflects on a triumphant night for Chelsea football club.
You may love him or loath him but one think you have to do
is now respect him. 7months of unprecedented pressure, some self inflicted some
unjust but he has succeeded where Jose Mourinho failed in three years and taken
Chelsea to their first Champions League final in his first season at the club.
It was tough, nail biting but fully deserved as the much
criticised Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard, who showed remarkable courage,
fired the decisive goals that brought Russian owner Roman Abramovich his
perfect dream. Chelsea in the Champions League final, and in Moscow, you couldn't
write this script. It was like the gods had conspired to make Luis Garcia's
goal count, the penalty saves from Rafa Benitez just so this could happen. He
can finally feel justified in getting rid of Jose as his director of football
has finally delivered.
It will be a buoyant night on the Kings Road and many bars
all around West London. Chelsea have made the Champions League final and now
the prospect of Manchester United in Moscow awaits. Many pints, bottle of wines
and shots will be passing through the lips of jubilant supporters tonight and I
wonder if they will raise a glass to Avram Grant, like him or hate him you
cannot argue he has now delivered.
How are you feeling tonight? Is the double well and truly
on? Having dispatched United clinically at the weekend, should Moscow hold any fears?
