Xabi Alonso's Liverpool future remains uncertain after his agent suggested the Spain midfielder could leave Anfield when the transfer window reopens in January.

Alonso, 26, had looked to be on his way out of Merseyside earlier in the summer when the Reds were expected to complete the signing of Aston Villa's Gareth Barry.

The former Real Sociedad midfielder was strongly linked with a £12million move to Juventus and then Arsenal, but their failure to land Barry in a protracted saga resulted in Alonso remaining at Anfield.

Alonso has figured in all five of Liverpool's games in all competitions at the start of the new season, but his agent, Inaki Ibanez, claims his client could still be on his way in January.

"We will see what happens in January," he told The Times.

"At the moment Xabi is concentrating on playing well for Liverpool.

"No agreement was reached to sell him, so mentally he is a Liverpool player.

"January is a long time away."

Is there any way back for Xabi Alonso at Liverpool or is the Spaniard stil intent on leaving Anfield in January?
