Baggies swoop for Simpson
West Bromwich Albion have confirmed their capture of Arsenal youngster Jay Simpson on loan until the end of the season.
Simpson, 20, has joined a Baggies side which is currently struggling to score goals and is two points adrift at the foot of the Premier League table.
The graduate of the youth system at the Emirates Stadium made his first-team debut in the Carling Cup this season.
He scored twice in the fourth round 3-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in November and also featured against Sheffield United and Burnley.
Speaking last week, Baggies boss Tony Mowbray admitted he wanted to sign Simpson in a bid to bolster his goal-shy attack.
"Our team needs some help in that department," he admitted.
"I would suggest Jay is an unknown quantity at Premier League level. Can he score goals? I don't know.
"But we'll hopefully give him an opportunity to see if he can.
"He's obviously had a very good upbringing at Arsenal and every player needs an opportunity.
"We'll hopefully be able to provide a platform for him to see if he's going to be, from his perspective, an Arsenal star of the future.
"Sometimes all these young boys need is an opportunity to burst onto the scene and do the job."
