Wright-Phillips ban confirmed

Manchester City have confirmed that Shaun Wright-Phillips will miss their next three games after being found guilty of violent conduct by the Football Association.

City had contested the charge handed down to the England midfielder after he lashed out at Stoke's Rory Delap during the 1-0 defeat at the Britannia Stadium on January 31.
Wright-Phillips' kick at Delap was missed by referee Martin Atkinson which led to the FA taking action.

Delap was sent off for his part in the incident after tripping Wright-Phillips and then kicking the ball into the midriff of his grounded opponent.
Wright-Phillips will now miss City's upcoming Premier League games against Portsmouth, Liverpool and West Ham United.

Speaking at the weekend, manager Mark Hughes had urged the FA to downgrade the charge of violent conduct.
"We know Shaun retaliated but we have asked the FA to look at it again," he said.

"We have made various representations to maybe having the charge changed from violent conduct to something less.

"How successful we are, we will have to wait and see."
