Would Spurs fans be shedding any tears if the club were to cash in?

Football FanCast columnist ‘The New Voice of Football' wonders if Roman Pavlyuchenko will really be missed at WHL.

Through all the speculation emerging in the media as we now approach a time, when agents ban all personal calls to their mobiles from family and friends. One thing that would seem to be almost certain to happen in the summer is the continued Harry Redknapp shake-up of the attacking personnel at Tottenham.

Having spent the best part of £30million to bring Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe back to Spurs, it stands to reason that this will be Redknapp's preferred pairing next term. Leaving Darren Bent and Roman Pavlyuchenko as the vulnerable two, should Harry as expected bring in another forward, with Frazier Campbell due to return to Manchester United from his loan spell.

Bent is the striker that is heavily tipped to leave White Hart Lane at the end of the campaign, with Redknapp publicly lambasting the former Charlton man earlier in the year following yet another masterclass in how to fire blanks in the clash against Portsmouth. Sunderland and Aston Villa amongst those linked with the forward.

However, it is Russian, Pavlyuchenko, who is a wanted man it seems; with Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink claiming that the striker would be an excellent addition to Stamford Bridge, having worked with the Russian at International level.

"Pavlyuvenko is capable of reinforcing Chelsea's attacking line, to add both dynamics and power," Hiddink said, according to Svobodnaya Pressa news agency.

"It's true that I used to call him a Sleeping Giant – but since he moved to Tottenham he started thinking on the pitch much faster and now plays better.

"It's a pity that Spurs keep him on the bench. I would never do that. Such a talented footballer as Roman should play as often as possible.

"I think that Pavlyuchenko would be a good signing for Chelsea."

Sleeping giant would seem to hit the nail on the head, for as soon as Roman arrived in North London last year for the princely sum of £14million. Former coaches in Russia queued up to tell everyone how Pavlyuchenko needed the ‘odd slap' to get himself motivated. I can understand someone needing a slap if they had to clean toilets all day, but to play football?

This should have set off a few alarms within White Hart Lane. As at times Pavlyuchenko has looked like a slap was needed to get him going this season. 13 goals in 31 games for Tottenham, does not seem like a bad return for a striker in his debut season at a club. But with only 4 goals in 23 Premiership appearances, would Spurs not be wise to bite Chelsea's hand off if they can recoup the £14million paid to CSKA Moscow last summer? After all Bent's record in the Premiership is much better this season and Tottenham seemingly can't wait to jettison him.
