Striker Peter Lovenkrands is the latest Newcastle United player to reveal his desire to remain at St James' Park beyond the end of the season.

The Denmark international joined the Magpies on a short-term deal from Schalke in January and has scored three goals in ten appearances.

Lovenkrands is out of contract in the summer but is hoping his brief stay on Tyneside can be extended with the offer of a new contract.

The former Rangers winger said:"It is a great club to be in and I hope that we stay up and that I can be a part of that.

"But you never know what will happen in the world of football – if they wish to keep me, or whatever will happen."

In recent days, fellow soon to be out of contract frontman Mark Viduka has also urged the Magpies to offer him a new deal.
