Blackburn Rovers hope to tie Norway international Morten Gamst Pedersen to a new Ewood Park contract in the near future.

The 27-year-old has been a virtual ever-present in the Rovers side for the last five seasons making more than 200 appearances for the club.

Chairman John Williams said of Pedersen's future at the club:"That's something we'll look at over the next couple of weeks.

"I'll have to sit down and talk to Sam (Allardyce) about Morten's situation, but I think all parties are willing to get something sorted."

Meanwhile, Brett Emerton hopes to be fit for the start of the campaign in just over eight weeks' time.

The Australia international, who missed the final four months of last season after undergoing surgery on a ruptured knee ligament, said:"Everything's going really well.

"I've been running for quite some time now and I'll be looking to rejoin the team during pre-season."
