Reports suggest Javier Mascherano's agent has flown to Barcelona to discuss a possible transfer to the Nou Camp for the Liverpool midfielder.

The Argentina international is believed to be interested in moving to the Catalan giants even though the Reds insisted at the weekend that he was not for sale.

The midfielder's agent, Walter Tamer, is believed to have travelled to Barcelona to talk about the possibility of a switch which would see Yaya Toure move in the opposite direction.

Liverpool dismissed speculation linking Xabi Alonso and Mascherano with moves away from Anfield, with a statement on the club's official website reading:"Despite repeated media speculation on the futures of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano, Liverpool has received no official approach or offer from any club regarding the players.

"Neither is for sale and furthermore Liverpool has no interest in the long list of Spanish-based players being linked with a move to Anfield as part of any deal."

Twenty-five-year-old Mascherano moved to Anfield in January 2007 after an unhappy spell with West Ham United.
