Quartet of signings will more than bolster the Wolves ranks
Football FanCast columnist Adam Thompson compiles a list of players that Wolves should look to bring to Molineux this summer.
It seems just about every player that has fallen out with their manager, has an agent seeking them a move, or wants to engineer themselves an improved contracted has been linked to Wolves in the last month. With Wanderers confirming they have submitted a 6.5million bid to Reading for striker Kevin Doyle and Chairman Steve Morgan stating ‘more signings will follow' Serbian Nenad Milijas and Doyle's former team mate Marcus Hahnemann, its sure to be a busy time at the Molineux in the next month or so.
The club are playing the patient game (or at least that's what they're telling us) with only the aforementioned players added to the Championship champions squad. With newly promoted Burnley yet to acquire any reinforcements and Birmingham simply panic buying, Wolves have stuck to their formulae of buying the right player only for the right price.
But who are the right players and where should Wolves look to strengthen? Here's a few I feel would be welcome additions at WV1.
Zat Knight
At 6ft6 Knight would bring the physically presence in the centre defence so desperately needed in the Premiership. With bags of top flight experience with Fulham and Aston Villa this would be a shrewd move by Mick McCarthy to bring in the Brummy born giant to the Black Country. Knight also has international experience and at 29 with Jody Craddock, Cristophe Berra or Richard Stearman alongside him could be making of a solid physical Wolves back line.
Price: £3-4 Million
Raul Tamundo
The Catalan striker has scored over 100 goals for Espanyol with a ratio of 1 in 3 in La Liga, he's represented Spain 13 times and was a silver medalist with them in the 2000 Sydney Olympics .Wolves would be getting a proven goal scorer and Espanyol's golden boy. However with no experience in English football and the striker turning 32 in October these factors will count against him
Price: £2 Million
Ronald Zubar
The Marseille centre back is reported to have fallen out with manager Didier Deschamps and seeking a move away from the Velodrome. He was linked to a January transfer move to Arsenal in 2006, at 6ft2 and 23 years of ages he fit's the clubs criteria of ‘young and hungry'. He's chipped in with his fair share of goals too for Marseille and is a threat in the air. His left peg aint bad either based on his goal for France which is worth checking out on Youtube. Stories earlier this week reported Wolves have agreed a fee with Marseille and the Frenchman will be in Wolverhampton to hold talks at the weekend.
Price: £2-3 Million
Andrew Surman
The South African born England U21 was the jewel in the ill fated Southampton side last season. Despite their relegation, Southampton won many admirers for their flowing football with Surman seen as the lynchpin of their attractive style. McCarthy seems to favour left footed midfielders with David Jones and Nenad Milijas already in the ranks, Surman would add to this with many touting him for a move to the Premiership. Play off finalists Sheffield United are favourites to land his signature but with Wolves declaring interest and Southampton needing to sell their assets to keep the administrators happy Surman could be Wolves' for a snip.
Price: £1 Million
