Portugal international Luis Boa Morte could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering suspected cruciate ligament damage.

The 31-year-old former Fulham star picked up the injury during West Ham United's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Asia Trophy on Wednesday.

Boa Morte hurt his knee in a challenge with Spurs' Benoit Assou-Ekotto and had to be fitted with a knee brace before being taken to hospital.

The incident occurred in the tenth minute of the match that was eventually decided by former Hammers star Jermain Defoe's second-half strike.

Boss Gianfranco Zola admitted to Sky Sports after the game: "It's not looking good, but he's gone to have a scan and we'll take it from there."
