Hull City boss Phil Brown is close to bringing Sunderland defender Paul McShane back to the KC Stadium.

The 25-year-old, who spent four months on loan with the Tigers last term, is tipped to seal a £2million transfer to City in the next week.

When asked about the link, assistant manager Brian Horton said:"He's a name that's been mentioned. Macca was terrific with us when he was last here. He's one player we've looked at.

"We're still at it big style, we're working hard and I'm sure there'll be movement before the window closes."

McShane made 17 appearances for Hull last term before being recalled by Sunderland but is not believed to be in new boss Steve Bruce's first-team plans.

Brown has already signed Jozy Altidore, Seyi Olofinjana, Kamel Ghilas and Stephen Hunt since the end of last season and continues to be linked with Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt.
