Fulham captain Danny Murphy has signed a new one-year contract extension to keep him at the club until the summer of 2011.

The 32-year-old former England international has been with the Cottagers for two years, but had been linked with a move away from Craven Cottage earlier this summer.

Meanwhile, Fulham boss Roy Hodgson has challenged himself and his squad to cope with the absence of shoulder injury victim Andrew Johnson.

He commented:"We know what a great job AJ does for us.

"The main reason for my anger over his injury was due to the fact that when he does not play a certain dimension goes from our game and we cannot replace him.

"We just did not get going on Sunday (against Chelsea) and we never got into any positions to cause them any problems.

"Andy will be missing for some time and it is up to the other players to fill that void as best they can, and for me to come up with a plan that will see us cope as best we can."
