Villa boss eyeing Sidwell boost
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is hopeful that midfielder Steve Sidwell will shake off a thigh injury to feature against Manchester City on Monday evening.
The 26-year-old picked up a knock during the warm-up for the Carling Cup clash with Cardiff City last week, but has now returned to training.
O'Neill told the Birmingham Mail:"Steve did a little bit of training with the physio yesterday. He has not felt the effects of any running he did on Monday either.
"Fingers crossed, if he comes through the next couple of days he might join in with the team on Friday with a view to Monday.
"It's looking better, but I would still be cautious.
"He set out this season and with Gareth Barry going everyone thinks there's a possibility here.
"He accepted the fact we would probably go and sign some players and he just wanted to have a crack at it and see how things would go. That's fine."
Sidwell joined Villa in the summer of 2008 from Chelsea and has scored four times in 31 appearances for the Midlanders to date.
