Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has ruled Michael Kightly out of Saturday's meeting with Blackburn Rovers and vowed to be patient with his returning winger.

Kightly has returned to full training this week after a summer operation to cure a foot injury.

The 23-year-old wideman was one of the key players in Wolves' successful Championship promotion campaign last season.

"Michael's training with the first-team squad," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"He's nowhere near playing and he won't be involved on Saturday.

"He had an hour here in a game on Tuesday and it was lovely to see him involved – he's a terrific footballer, a really talented individual.

"Some of the things he did were great, but he's still not ready to play.

"His touch is coming back and he spots a pass – he's lovely to watch when he's playing like that and I really enjoyed watching him being out there.

"He's not up to match speed but he's getting there. He's got every chance of playing in the reserve game at West Ham."
