Chelsea 2009/10 Football Shirts (Home/Away/Third)
The 2009/10 Chelsea Home Shirt sponsored by Adidas is worn in the Premier League, the Champions League and FA and Carling Cups by John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba. The shirt is also sponsored by Samsung and is the latest blue Chelsea shirt that has been worn by Blues’ legends Ron Harris, Kerry Dixon and more recently Italian Gianfranco Zola.
The Chelsea 2009/10 Home Shirt is the latest in a long line of blue shirts that the club have worn. Chelsea have always worn blue shirts since they were founded in 1905, changing from light blue to royal blue around 1912. Manager Tommy Docherty changed the kit in the 1960s when he changed the shorts to blue, and Chelsea wore their distinctive all blue shirt in the 1964/65 season. Chelsea’s nickname of the Blues directly comes from the colour of their football shirts, and come Saturday afternoons at Stamford Bridge the stadium will be awash with blue. Chelsea’s 1972 song called “Blue Is The Colour” also pays direct homage to the colour of the shirts.

The 2009/10 Chelsea Away Shirt consists of horizontal dark navy stripes and will be worn for one season only like many Premier League clubs. Some of their memorable away kits include the mint green football shirt of the 1980s, a checked red and white kit in the early 1990s and a graphite and tangerine shirt of the mid 1990s. Like their away kit, their club crest has also changed over the years and is currently in its fourth different style. Fans were demanding that the traditional badge was restored after Chairman Ken Bates modernised it in 1986, and in the 2005/06 season Chelsea made a return to the older design of a blue lion holding a staff.

The 2009/10 Chelsea Third Shirt contrasts well with both their home and away shirts. The white third kit solves the problem of Chelsea having blue home and away kits and contains subtle horizontal silver stripes to make it a very classy looking shirt. The shirt which is manufactured by Adidas is made using their revolutionary Climacool fabric to increase comfort help players keep cool during matches. Chelsea’s current shirt sponsor is the Korean electronic company Samsung, after they signed a five year deal in 2005 estimated to be worth around £50 million. Samsung are the latest in a long list of Chelsea football shirt sponsors, the first of which being Gulf Air in the 1983.84 season.
