Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has 'welcomed' a possible takeover bid from director Stan Kroenke.

The American businessman was already the club's biggest shareholder before he upped his stake in the Gunners to 28.9 per cent on Thursday.

Kroenke and fellow investor Alisher Usmanov have both gradually increased their holdings during the past 12 months and Hill-Wood has, for the first time, given his blessing to a takeover approach from the American.

"It does look like he is edging towards a takeover, which I would welcome," said Hill-Wood.

"I have not asked him if that is what he plans to do, but I am very relaxed about it.

"If it was to happen, I don't think you can expect any big changes because he seems to like things very much the way they are."
