West Ham United defender Calum Davenport will face an assault charge relating to an incident in August which left him with serious stab wounds to both legs.
The 26-year-old has been charged with causing actual bodily harm to a woman involved in the confrontation at Davenport's mother's home.
A statement from Davenport's PR company read:"I am deeply shocked and disappointed at the decision that has been made to charge me with assault.
"I deny any wrongdoing and will plead not guilty. For legal reasons I am unable to discuss the matter further at this time."
Davenport required emergency surgery at Bedford Hospital to repair the damage to his limbs.
