Arsenal should ignore club policy so to secure new deal
Football FanCast columnist Billy Pearson feels that Arsenal should do everything in their powers to keep William Gallas at the club.
If you look at the most successful sides in Europe then the one common denominator that they all posses, is a strong centre back pairing. When you find one, you have to make sure you keep it, as they don’t come along all that often.
Arsenal have had their fair few over the years, with the likes of Adams/Bould and Campbell/Toure, but unfortunately it is something that Wenger hasn’t been able to find in the past few years, until now. It is something that needs to be maintained and with Gallas entering the final year of his contract it is vital that the club look to get it resolved
before January, when he will open to offers elsewhere. The rumours have been mounting this week that the Frenchman will look to move on, as he wants greater security than just a one-year rolling contract that is likely to be on offer at the Emirates. You can’t blame him in that respects, but it does beg the question as to whether the club should make an exception to their policy for player’s that are of a certain age. Gallas isn’t a player that has really struggled with injuries over the years, therefore it hardly represents much of a risk.
I have to admit that I thought Gallas’ time was up at Arsenal, given what has gone on
before, but whether it was being stripped of the captaincy, or the calming
influence of Vermaelen, the Frenchman looks a different player and showing the
kind of form he use to produce on regular occasions for Chelsea. Gallas looks a
player reborn this season and alongside Vermaelen we finally have a defensive unit
of which we can build from and one that can provide a solid foundation of which
we can achieve success. It is vital that Wenger and Arsenal look to maintain this and perhaps with Gallas we should make an exception to the rule.

I support this position 100 percent. In fact, instead of Wenger losing Gallas, he should more players like in the team. We need more strength in the Arsenal team so that can stop losing matches like the one against Sunderland.
