Rose, Hines, Rodwell, Delph…these kids are a bit special!
The English FA Premier League is home to a host of young talent and a number of youngsters are already being tipped for future stardom. Both English and foreign young footballers are making a name for themselves in the Premiership and anticipation and in turn expectations for some of them are spiralling at a rapid rate. Arsenal and Manchester in particular have an array of young footballing talent in their squads, whilst other Premiership clubs have their fair share too. So if you catch some live footy from the Premiership on TV, here are some of the yougsters that you should be looking out for:
10 – Fran Merida (19): The Spanish midfielder is one of a number of promising youngsters that Arsenal have on their books. Merida scored a stunning goal in the Carling Cup this season against Liverpool at The Emirates and Arsenal fans will be hoping that it will be the first of many. Despite interest from Spain, Arsenal will be keen to keep hold of the youngster who was part of the Barcelona youth setup and is comfortable on the ball, technically gifted and highly creative.
-
9 – Danny Rose (19): A product of the Leeds youth academy, Rose signed for Tottenham for £1 million in 2007 before being sent out on loan to Watford and in turn Peterborough. The young winger scored for the England U21s against Portugal last weekend after being recalled to White Hart Lane. The highly committed and talented midfielder will now be looking to force his way into Harry Redknapp’s thinking and follow in the footsteps of fellow winger Aaron Lennon.
-
8 – Fabian Delph (19): The English central midfielder secured a big money move to Aston Villa in the summer, for what was thought to be a large but undisclosed fee from Leeds. Delph was named in the League 1 Team of the Year last season and was being scouted by a number of top Premiership clubs before his move to Villa. One of the rising stars of English football, Aston Villa could well be the perfect place for the pacy player to enhance his reputation and get some first-team football under his belt.
-
7 – Federico Macheda (18): The Italian striker burst onto the scene last season with a neat turn and curling finish to earn Manchester United a dramatic Premiership victory against Aston Villa at Old Trafford. ‘Kiko’ is a powerful forward who has already shown that he has an eye for goal and is highly regarded in Italy. He joined United from Lazio in 2007 and though he is yet to make a league appearance this season and his opportunities may be limited, he is definitely one for the future.
-
6 – Zavon Hines (20): The English striker has already featured heavily for West Ham this season, and scored his first Premiership goal against Aston Villa at Upton Park earlier in the season. Hines was born in Jamaica, but has featured for the England U21s and scored twice against Macedonia in a match where he formed a good partnership with Newcastle’s Andy Carroll. The pacy young striker has already impressed his manager Gianfranco Zola and it will be interesting to see how he handles the spotlight.
-
5 – Tom Cleverley (20): The Manchester United midfielder has already earned a number of admirers after impressing in the Championship so far where he is playing for Watford. The versatile midfielder who can also play in defence has scored 6 goals in 13 league appearances for Watford this season and is highly regarded at Old Trafford. He is described as a footballer who has a clever approach to play and he is sure to return to United and feature in the Premiership in the not too distant future.
-
4 – Jack Wilshere (17): There hasn’t been this much anticipation surrounding an English player since a young Wayne Rooney first played for Everton. The left-footed midfielder has already starred in the England youth teams and is sure to play for the senior team in the coming years. It is thought that the sky is the limit for Wilshere and whilst Wenger will be keen to keep his feet on the ground, his self-belief and positive style of play will have Arsenal and England fans clamouring for a glimpse of him.
-
3 – Gabriel Obertan (20): The French midfielder is most comfortable on the wing and his versatility will please his new manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He signed for Manchester United in the summer after a 4 year spell in France at Bordeaux and has already tasted first-team action this season. He is yet to find the back of the net for United, but the 6ft 1in Frenchman will be a threat in the air as well as on the wing, and has already made 4 senior appearances and is now fighting for a first-team place.
-
2 – Jack Rodwell (18): Despite being only 18 years old, Rodwell has already earned himself a place in Everton’s first team and the composure that he shows is incredible for someone so young. The English defensive midfielder stamps his authority on the pitch as though he has been playing for many years and has a whole load of experience. Rodwell may well find that he is more at home in centre defence in the future, and has already been linked with a £20 million move to Chelsea.
-
1 – Aaron Ramsey (18): Ramsey has already made his name on the international stage for Wales, scoring last weekend in a 3-0 victory against Scotland, and the midfielder is bound to come into Arsene Wenger’s thoughts more and more this season. He signed from Cardiff for £5 million in 2008 and is starting to feature in the Premiership this season. A midfielder with an excellent technique and good vision, comparisons have already been made with his Arsenal teammate Cesc Fabregas. No pressure then.
-
Ramsey is arguably already a top-class player and he is only likely to improve in the future under the guidance of Wenger. Alongside other youngsters, there is an abundance of young British and International talent in the Premier League as well as the Championship and Football League. Are there any young players at your club who you have already caught a glimpse of and feel could be hot property in seasons to come?
