steven_gerrardFootball FanCast Columnist Darren Wells-Burr asks after a horror week for the Reds does Steve Gerrard regrets not making the move to the bridge.

Cast your mind back to 2005, Gerrard has just lifted the Champions League trophy after an epic win against Milan. At that point he was at the top of his game and as many young players who hit the ground running do, he had won a lot at such a young age. (Ronaldo Rooney United)

However even then something was still getting at him. It was the fact he had not won a competition that was contested by four of the best teams in the world over a thirty eight league game campaign – the Premiership.

Allegedly the talks with Chelsea reached a very advanced stage, only for Gerrard after much uproar displayed by the Anfield faithful, to turn his back on the deal and stay with the Reds.

Four success free seasons on with Liverpool out of the Champions League and having a slim chance of winning the league this season because of how strong Chelsea look, should Gerrard jump ship? He could quite rightly like Ronaldo and maybe also Xabi Alonso says that he has done everything he can do with his club and needs a new challenge. Since Gerrard turned them down, Chelsea the following season went on to win the league, reach the final of the Champions League and win domestic cups. Could Gerrard have made the difference on those faithful nights in the semi finals of the Champions League and against United in Russia?

After recently reading Gerrard’s book it is clear the guy gets his head turned easily. He is someone who is filled with doubt, he strives to win the Premier League title, like anyone else.

But in all honestly this is an old debate, after the second debacle with Chelsea in 2005, Gerrard said he would stay at Anfield for the rest of his career. Nothing has changed, the guy would like nothing better than to win the Premier League but only with Liverpool.
