West Ham could be forgiven in thinking there is some sort of agenda

valon_behramiFootball FanCast guest columnist Jim Pryce feels that West Ham fans could be forgiven in thinking that there is perhaps some media agenda out against them.

A fella wrote on this site a few weeks back about the media and the malicious ways that they try and unsettle the Hammers in any shape, way or means possible in order to provoke a reaction. I know I shouldn’t be oversensitive about it and just accept it as part of the game, but if you can tell me the name of another football club that is always on the end of negative reports, rumours and speculation like we are.

It will be nice to read a Sunday paper that hasn’t such underlying connotations. Whether it has been Fleet Street’s agenda this week to purposely set out to unsettle as many West Ham supporters as possible, I am not sure, but they are doing their level best to do so by touting our players to other football clubs, or in Valon Behrami’s case look to totally manipulate what he actually said, in order put down the Hammers with the title ‘Behrami eyeing move to bigger club’ suggesting that we are being used as a mere stepping stone for a future move.

What amazes me is their sheer ignorance. I don’t know how many times Scott Duxbury has expressed that the club will not be doing any transfer dealing with the Spuds yet it doesn’t stop them linking Matt Upson with a move every other week. The club have also revealed on countless times that they have no need to sell in the January window, yet they still run the stories this week that we will have to cash in on Carlton Cole as the club appear to be on the brink financially. Even a club spokesman ruling out the rumours, didn’t prevent a countering story the next day.

It is absolutely relentless and we could be forgiven in thinking that there is some sort of agenda out against us. I just hope that this Intermarket consortium come up with the goods not only to save our football club and see it move forward, but also to save our sanity from the media vultures determined to unsettle our football club.

In these times, it has become a media obsession to firstly build up and then destroy players, managers, and clubs’ reputations as and when it suits them and we are to blame for allowing ourselves to believe and react to all that they inform us of.
