jesus_navas-6173The Premier League prides itself on the pace and strength of its games, with many people believing it is the best league in the world. It is therefore no surprise that some of the world’s best prospects are being linked with moves to English clubs left, right and centre. One of these is Sevilla winger Jesús Navas.

In the summer of 2006, it looked as though Navas may be on his way to Stamford Bridge, however Navas declined the move due to an odd condition the player has. Navas suffers from a type of Chronic Homesickness, experiencing anxiety and panic attacks, hindering the player from a move away from his home in Seville. This condition had also prohibited the youngster from playing for his national side, however in light of his recent call ups to the Spain squad, Navas has attempted to conquer this condition and this reignites the possibility of a move to England.

Navas is predominantly a right winger, although can play on either flank. Despite only being 23 years of age, the young Spaniard has played a key part for Sevilla over the last few years. He played in all 12 games of the club’s 2005-06 UEFA Cup run, which culminated in a 4-0 drubbing of Middlesbrough in the final.

The winger has stunning dribbling skills and pace, and like any wide player, he thrives on his ability to beat players one on one. In a recent match with title rivals Real Madrid, I watched Navas tear apart the Real Madrid left back Marcelo, whipping in a series of great cross in arguably Sevilla’s most impressive performance so far this season. Navas is also improving his eye for goal, having not been noted for his goal scoring prowess in the past, he has scored twice already in La Liga for Sevilla, including a goal against the Galáctico’s Real Madrid. He is an exciting player who I would really like to see in the Premier League.

As an addition to the Chelsea squad, as a fan myself I think he would work wonders. Chelsea lack somewhat in terms of world class wingers, with Florent Malouda only a fringe player at the club and Joe Cole looking like he may slot into a more central attacking role. Navas would provide flair and pace and give Chelsea some much welcomed wide options. Another club that there have been whispers concerning Navas with is Arsenal and the youngster would no doubt prosper from a move to the Emirates. In my opinion the winger would not have much issue dealing with the pace and strength of the league and his technical ability would make him an asset for any side.

Navas may however feel as though he does not need to move to pastures new and looking at the current Sevilla side, it is easy to see why. They have a set up which means they can challenge for the La Liga title with giants Barcelona and Real Madrid and if you believe the words of Spanish pundit and expert Guillem Balague then they also have a shot of the latter stages of the Champions League, possibly even at the trophy itself. Will we see Navas in England soon? I certainly hope so.
