Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has rejected suggestions that winning the league is now only a formality following Sunday's 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

Skipper John Terry's controversial 76th minute headed winner extended the Blues' lead at the top of the table over United and Arsenal to five points.

But despite the now healthy advantage, Ancelotti sounded a cautious note when asked about the title race.

"We are now five points clear but we know very well that the season is long," he said.

"We have to maintain this atmosphere and we hope to maintain this gap."

Speaking about the performance, the Italian added:"I think it was a difficult match for both teams.

"There was no space in midfield, it was difficult to create an opportunity to score.

"It was a match with very good balance, a strong match and we did what we had to do.

"We beat a very good team – our best opponent."
