Arsenal fall victim to double standards

wengerArsene Wenger fears that Arsenal is falling victim to a blatant case of double standards.

Speaking after yesterday’s 3-0 victory, Wenger spoke out about how the Gunners are getting the thin end of wedge on penalty decisions, for and against, since the Eduardo saga earlier in the season.

The Frenchman believes that not only are they failing to be awarded clear cut penalties, most notably Carlos Vela and Robin van Persie against AZ Alkmaar, but the media are showing complete double standards towards diving in the game and casually turning a blind eye to certain incidents when they were only too happy to condemn Eduardo.

Wenger said: “There was a 100 per cent penalty call against Carlos Vela.

“There was another against Robin van Persie. I fear completely that some referees are going into the game with that mindset. What happened with Vela was unbelievable.

“I hope referees won’t think that way but I changed my mind after that game.

“If they are sticking together on this then that’s something we have to live with.

“Last week, Scott Parker dived. No one spoke about it. You start to think the media make the rules.

“If they made a big thing of Eduardo then why did they not do that against Parker?”
