Burnley utility man Andre Bikey is determined to help his club over the Christmas period before flying out for African Cup of Nations duty with Cameroon.

The 24-year-old, who can play in either defence or midfield, has been excused duty at a pre-tournament training camp and will head out to Angola a matter of days before the action gets underway.

Bikey commented:"The Cameroon manager is going to give us the maximum time to be at the club.

The African Cup of Nations starts on January 10, but I think we are going to get dispensation for four or five days.

"The English League doesn't stop, so I don't have to be with the team for two weeks before. I am going to be with Burnley for the longest time possible."

The delay of Bikey's departure ensures that he will be eligible for selection with the Clarets for the Premier League clash with Everton on December 28, as well as the club's FA Cup third round tie the following weekend.
