Skipper Kevin Davies insists Bolton Wanderers and close to finding the winning formula despite slipping into the relegation places at the weekend.

Sunday's 2-0 derby loss at home to Blackburn Rovers was a fourth defeat on the spin for the ailing Trotters.

During that run they have conceded 15 and scored just one goal, but Davies believes there is still reason for optimism around the Reebok Stadium.

Earlier in the week, chairman Phil Gartside was forced to deny claims that manager Gary Megson was on the verge of losing his job.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's trip to Fulham, Davies told the club's official website:"We have been focusing on getting our levels of consistency back again because at the moment we are not doing that.

"We go on a good run, get in touching distance of the pack and towards the top ten and then we have a couple of defeats. We have to crack on again.

"It is frustrating for us, the manager and, of course, the fans.

"We will be looking to take the next step on Saturday, but we are not that far away and with another win then we are under way again."
