Bolton Wanderers' record signing Johan Elmander has been challenged to prove his worth by Trotters manager Gary Megson.

The 28-year-old Sweden international has netted just seven times in 39 appearances for Bolton to date, but did score last time out in the 5-1 thrashing at Aston Villa.

Megson told reporters:"He has found himself out of the team and whether that has had a positive effect, I don't know.

"It is a big season for him and it was nice he scored against Aston Villa. He is a good player, but he's got to deliver on a regular basis the same as everybody else."

Meanwhile, Elmander believes that he is ready to start justifying the £10million fee which saw him move to England from Toulouse in the summer of 2008.

He told the Bolton News:"The last month has felt fantastic.

"I feel I still have it in me, that I can run and it doesn't hurt and the touch is still there. Now I'm looking forward to better times."
