Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon looks set to be sidelined for three months after breaking his arm in the 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the month.

It is the latest setback for the former Hearts shot-stopper who struggled with a knee injury last season and failed at first to displace Marton Fulop in the Black Cats' starting line-up.

"Craig's injury is the most disappointing thing to come out of the last couple of weeks," Sunderland boss Steve Bruce told the club's official website.

"It looks as if it's going to be three months. We've not had much luck in that respect – that's two serious injuries in a month.

"Marton's been there and done it before, but Trevor (Carson) has a chance to stake his claim, too.

"I was impressed with the way he handled himself in pre-season, so it's not a foregone conclusion that I'm going to pick Marton. Trevor has a chance to come in, too."
