Manager Roy Hodgson praised the character of his Fulham side after they swept Blackburn Rovers aside 3-0 on Wednesday night.

Erik Nevland's 40th minute strike was followed by two goals from Clint Dempsey as the Cottagers moved up to 10th place in the Premier League table.

The margin of victory came as something of a surprise to Hodgson after a low-key opening 35 minutes at Craven Cottage.

"The first 40 minutes was not the sort of game you like to watch because the ball was all up in the air," he admitted.

"We hoped to get the ball down but credit to Blackburn because they kept us pinned down and stopped us doing what we wanted to do.

"Fortunately, we had the fight and character to stay in the game and then we had one moment in the first half where we scored a good goal.

"The scoreline shows us easy winners but it was a very, very tough victory and one I'm very proud of."
