Manager Alex McLeish believes Birmingham City's 1-0 derby win over Wolves highlights just how far they have come in his two years at the helm.

McLeish celebrated his second anniversary in the St Andrew's hot-seat with a priceless 1-0 win at Molineux which lifted the Blues up to 11th place in the table.

"The lads were magnificent today and put in a performance that thoroughly deserved the points," he told the club's official website.

"We have come a long way since I arrived at the club two years ago and although we have done nothing yet in many ways, I'm really proud of my players."

Lee Bowyer underlined his growing importance to the Blues as he came up with the game's decisive moment after just 125 seconds of play.

McLeish added:"You prepare hard during the week and of course always hope that you have a good start in games but you can never take it for granted that you will. Today we got off to a great start.

"Lee's goal was excellent and the only disappointment given that we played so well was that we didn't go in at the break more goals to the good.

"But that is a minor gripe because the overwhelming feeling at the end of a game like that is one of pride because we played very well. In fact I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say we were convincing winners."
