Christopher Samba has penned a new long-term deal with Blackburn Rovers that will keep the 25-year-old at Ewood Park until the end of the 2013-14 season.

The Congo-born defender has featured in more than 100 matches for Rovers since joining the club in a £400,000 transfer from Hertha Berlin almost three years ago, scoring nine goals.

Chairman John Williams told the club’s official website after confirming Samba’s new four-year contract:“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure Chris on a new long-term deal, which is an important deal for the club.

“It’s been richly deserved through his performances over the past few seasons, particularly during the last campaign when he demonstrated a tremendous attitude when playing in an unfamiliar role as a striker.”
