Vote of confidence for Benitez

Liverpool's managing director Christian Purslow says there is no chance of the club parting company with Rafa Benitez even after the club were knocked out of the Champions League on Tuesday.

Even though the Reds won 1-0 at Debrecen in their fifth Group E game, Fiorentina's single goal victory against Lyon in Florence consigned Benitez's side to the Europa League for the second half of the season.

However, there is no chance of Benitez losing his job, according to Purslow, who said:"You can never predict last-minute goals, which have cost us dear in the Champions League. That's no basis to make managerial decisions.

"We don't run our business in that respect. I'm on the record as saying Rafa's signed a new five-year contract, he's four months into that contract so to discuss that isn't appropriate.

"The monetary impact of dropping out of the Champions League is limited actually. Assuming we have a reasonable run in the Europa League then we're financially neutral for this year."
