Giovani Dos Santos: Bad attitude or badly treated?
When I previously wrote an article about Giovani Dos Santos I brought up that he had been one of the hottest prospects at Barcelona and this was questioned; allow me to assure you that Barca did see Dos Santos as one of their top prospects and he was only allowed to leave because of his own unhappiness. As mentioned in the comments section of that previous article, there are two rumours as to why Dos Santos left – one was that he demanded to be a first team regular and wanted a big wage increase which Barca were not prepared to offer, the other was that he was unhappy at how he was viewed nowhere near as favourably as fellow academy graduate Bojan. Either way, Barca weren’t best pleased at having to let Dos Santos go although they felt it had to be done.
Dos Santos’ career at Tottenham so far does not need to be gone over, we’re all aware of the misfortunes he’s suffered but how his career has gone does bring back the questions as to his departure from Barcelona: if he was so desperate for first team opportunities at Barca then how come he’s willing to wait for a chance at Spurs who are a smaller club than Barca? Yes injuries have played their role but Dos Santos has been fit sometimes and left out and he hasn’t come out to the media and complained once. It does question whether he would’ve levelled that complaint to Barca in the first place and makes it seem unlikely. So was Bojan the reason for Dos Santos’ departure?
He’s shown no signs of jealousy at Spurs, fellow young players like Tom Huddlestone and Aaron Lennon have come through and Dos Santos hasn’t been on the bench glaring at them as they progress and become fan favourites while he’s left out. There are no signs whatsoever of this supposed bad attitude that led to his departure from the Nou Camp.
Barca were always ready to praise Dos Santos as he came through the ranks and hail him as a top talent and he was already breaking into the first team. If he was that talented then why would they sell him? His attitude must surely have been the problem but it is extremely strange that it hasn’t flared up again at Spurs if playing time was an initial problem for him. Does higher wages make Dos Santos happy enough to sit on the bench? That’s unclear, but surely not for a player who’s looking to progress.
Unless Barcelona and Dos Santos come out unified with an explanation as to what went on with his departure from the club, which is never going to happen, then we’ll never know. But Dos Santos does not seem the troublemaking sort at Spurs which adds to the mystery of the whole affair. Was there something else to his departure from Barca? Has he learned to control himself? Whatever happened, the hope now for Dos Santos is simply that he can make it at Spurs and still go on to become the star Barca claimed he would be – time will show us if there are attitude problems or not in him and if so it’ll be interesting to see what he does next.

If it is the fact that they are simply not letting Giovanni play, then of course there will be an attitude problem, how long will you have to keep a player on the bench until he breaks down? I don’t care who you are, there are going to be attitude problems if they keep favoring other players over you.I wouldn’t blame Gio if he is unhappy at Tottenham.

Yes, he’s had injuries but not all the time. I did mention in the article that injuries played their part in his current inactivity

The rumours about Gio’s bad attitude and alcohol problem seem to be too persistent to be ignored. I’d love to see the lad given a run but in truth who is he going to replace. Modric/Kranjcar on the left? Lennon on the right?? Defoe/Crouch/Keane up front?
I remember squealing like an excited girl when we signed him but if he doesn’t fit into Harry’s vision then we just have to sit back and have faith.

This lad excites me more than any player we have bought because he is a gifted player with a bad ankle injury and like Bale lets hope they start fulfilling there talent .

been injured since the first game of the season and is only coming into real fitness now. I think we’ll see him play some games before the season is out. Def’ hope to see him playing regularly either for us or on loan at some point. Problem is we play a 442, not a 433 and I see him very much as a 2nd striker, where we are already quite strong with Defoe and Keane competing imo. Maybe there’s a job for him as a winger in a 442, but we’ll have to wait and see what Harry thinks of him I suppose.

you say barca rated him as one of there hottest properties but they sold him for 4m, or whatever it was, so that is, presumably, what they saw his value as. from what we’ve seen so far it seems they were about right.

He clearly was highly rated by Barca though Tony.
He came through with Bojan but they opted to stick with Bojan.
If you look at the deal that Barca structured it was more realistic for a young player like that moving on rather than the £20m you hear thrown with any young player that has shown just a glimpse of talent whilst kicking a ball

I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THE LAD IS NOT UP TO THE REBUST PREMIERSHIP , AND RATHER HARRY LETTING HIM GO TO SOON AND PEOPLE TALKING BEHIND HARRY`S BACK QUESTIONING HIS VERY POOR JUDGEMENT IN THE FIRST INSTANCE IN SIGNING THE GUY , ITS WIDLEY KNOWN IN THE GAME HARRY IS A GREAT MOTIVATOR OF UNDERACHEIVING PLAYERS GETTING THE BEST OUT OF THEM , HARRY WANTS THAT REPUTATION TO STILL BE WATERTIGHT AND WOULD NOT LIKE OR ADMITT THIS ONE SIGNING WAS A BIG FAT FART IN THE WIND AND HE JUST CAN`T CRACK IT ! I REALLY CAN`T SEE HARRY CALLING TO THE LADS HOME OUT OF PURE PRESTIGE AND GET THE LAD IN HIS MERC AND BE A GREAT PAL AND GO SNOW BOARDING OR BUNGY JUMPING OR BETTER STILL TAKE HIM TO THE ZOO EH ! DO YOU ! ! !
