Who is this Uros Cosic…the reported object of Sir Alex’s affections?
Manchester United are being linked with a move for Uros Cosic, the highly-rated Serbian defender who has already been likened to current United star Nemanja Vidic. Cosic has drawn interest from Sir Alex Ferguson at a time when Man Utd have their fair share of defensive problems, but the Serbian youngster is being lined up as one for the future. Russian giants CSKA Moscow are keen to keep hold of the potential star, but will the lure of the Premier League be too great?
Uros Cosic is only 17 years old, but already the hype surrounding him has been taken to unbelievable levels. The 6ft plus, right-footed central defender could well follow in the footsteps of fellow Serbian Nemanja Vidic, with whom Cosic is already being compared and the similarities between the two have been drawn. The success of Vidic at Old Trafford may just increase Ferguson’s interest in Cosic, and the Man Utd manager won’t be afraid to bring another Serbian defender to the club.
Cosic’s current club CSKA are definitely hyping up their own player in what could be seen as an attempt to ramp up his value. CSKA’s Club President Yevgeni Giner is quoted in The Daily Mirror as saying that “I have not seen such a great central defender before.” So Cosic is certainly highly thought of and has a lot of praise to live up to, but even more pressure has been heaped on the youngster. In reference to United’s interest in Tosic, Giner further stated that “they have already made several attempts to approach me about him. They can see – the boy is going to grow into a bigger star than Vidic.” While it is obviously far too early to say whether Cosic will have the ability of Vidic in the future, he surely must have something about him.
Manchester United signed Vidic from CSKA’s Moscow rivals Spartak in 2006 for £7 million, and the Serbian defender has turned out to be bargain. It would seem that despite Uros Cosic only being 17, CSKA are looking to get the best price for him if they are unable to keep him at the club. CSKA are desperate to keep him though, and Giner said that “I must stress that we would like to keep Cosic. We even offered him Russian citizenship.” Whether they really want to keep him or they are just touting Cosic as a vital player remains to be seen, but you can be sure that Fergie won’t allow himself to be held to ransom by the Russian club. All eyes will now be on Cosic to see if he can live up to praise he has received, and whether Man Utd will swoop for the Serbian defender in the near future.

The general consensus coming from Russia is that he’s going to be a lot better than Vidic – a scary thought if he does reach that potential

I love comments like that. I’m absolutely certain you know of the general consensus from russia. Is’t not just an article in the mirror where the cska president was misquoted.
Of course if you’ve read your own russian sources then I apologise profusely.
The guy is 17. If he is signed by united, great. I’m a season ticket holder and always welcome new talent. but talking of a new vidic or better?! you must be MAD!
What were you doing at the age of 17? have you changed at all since then? matured? developed? grown? well good for you. you’re just like anybody else, and just like this unfortunate kid uros cosic who has been drawn into this transfer speculation

I know him!i am big fan of red star, and Uros started playing there first, justi laike Nemanja in Red Star, but when Uros was about to sign a professional contract, some fu**ing manager took him the day before, and took him to Moscow, and he is there for less than a year!He is great potential! In Red Star are going to appeal against those managers that took him to Moscow, and those managers are ex Red Star players!Hope he will develop, so maybe one day he”ll return!
