Hull City manager Phil Brown has reacted angrily to the news that his club have been handed an FA charge of failing to control their players following a fiery encounter with Arsenal.

Gunners midfielder Samir Nasri sparked a melee between a host of players when he appeared to tread on Richard Garcia's foot shortly before half-time at the Emirates Stadium in a match which his side eventually won 3-0.

Nasri was then involved in an altercation with Tigers midfielders Nicky Barmby and Stephen Hunt before being booked by referee Steve Bennett.

Brown responded to the charge by saying:"For us to come under criticism is absolutely scandalous and we'll be defending it.

"We conducted ourselves in the right manner right the way through the game.

"There was an incident where for some reason – and I can't answer the accusations against Nasri – he decided to light the touchpaper. We had no say in that matter whatsoever.

"We were playing competitive football in the first half and defending valiantly for our lives and catching Arsenal every so often on the counter-attack.

"We were doing our job to the best of our ability and maybe that's the reason they decided to light the touchpaper, I've got no idea."
