Newly-installed manager Avram Grant has urged Portsmouth fans to maintain their belief in Premier League survival after insisting that miracles can happen.
Grant has inherited a struggling side that is rooted to the foot of the table after winning just two of their opening 14 games.
The club's former director of football and the ex-manager at Chelsea was buoyed by the performance in his first game at the helm despite Pompey losing 4-1 at home to Manchester United on Saturday.
But despite the bleak outlook at Fratton Park, the Israeli coach is remaining upbeat.
"I know what I've come in to and the general situation is not good," he told the Portsmouth News."But I think even in a difficult situation it is possible to stay in the league. Miracles happen sometimes.
"With more than 20 games to go it is possible, even if it is a difficult task. It is a big challenge.
"We are creating a lot of chances – even against United we created a lot of chances. If we keep doing that we will win games."
Meanwhile, Grant has pledged to keep faith with a backroom team of Paul Groves and Ian Woan, whom he inherited from former manager Paul Hart.
