Fulham central defender Aaron Hughes has signed a new contract to keep him at Craven Cottage until the summer of 2013.

The 30-year-old former Newcastle United and Aston Villa star has been with the Cottagers since the summer of 2007 and has been a consistent performer for the club, featuring in almost 100 matches.

Northern Ireland international Hughes told the club's official website:"I've enjoyed my time at Fulham even during my first season when things weren't going too well on the pitch, so I'm delighted to have signed a new deal with the club.

"The team has performed well all last year and this form has continued into this season, so I'm really delighted that I will be here for a bit longer."

Hughes' defensive partner Brede Hangeland recently agreed a new long-term deal with the Cottagers, while manager Roy Hodgson is also reportedly close to penning a new contract.
