Sunderland striker Kenwyne Jones should have recovered from a dead leg in time to play against Fulham on Sunday.

The Trinidad and Tobago international has been suspended for the last three matches but was hurt during a reserve-team game against Wigan Athletic's second string on Tuesday evening.

However, Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is not too concerned, saying:"Kenwyne's got a dead leg but we expect him to be OK for the weekend.

"To lose him again would be a blow, but hopefully things will be fine and he has an extra day to recover with the game not being until Sunday."

Meanwhile, Russell Anderson was sent off in the same game, his first taste of action following a knee ligament problem that has sidelined him for 14 months.

Despite his late dismissal, the former Aberdeen star was pleased with the way his return went, telling the Sunderland Echo"The most important thing to come out of the game was to get 93 minutes under my belt.

"It was disappointing not to finish the game, but this was still the first 90 minutes I've played for 14 months and that's a good thing for me.

"I know some players might not think much of playing reserve-team football, but, for me, it's huge. I need to play games, it's as simple as that, and any kind of game I can get is beneficial for me.

"Unfortunately, it will be a little while until I get another one now because I will be suspended, but there's not much I can do about that."
