Schalke have dismissed renewed rumours suggesting that they are prepared to sell goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old Germany international is regarded as one of the most consistent keepers in the Bundesliga and agent Thomas Kroth claimed that Manchester United are keen on a deal.

He said: "I have read the reports about Manuel and a possible transfer to Manchester. I can confirm that United are interested in securing his services."

However, Schalke head coach Felix Magath told Bild:"I have said that Manuel Neuer is not for sale and there is no more news on this.

"We have a strong desire to play in the Champions League again, therefore we are going to need our best players.

"I am definitely not prepared to sell potentially the best shot-stopper in Germany."
