Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has refused to buckle under the pressure of trying to help his side move away from danger at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

A run of eight league games without a win has seen Wolves drop to 19th in the standings, but McCarthy is content to take the rough with the smooth.

He told the Express & Star:"You have the weight of the city and the gratitude of the city on your shoulders and you have whatever else comes with it on the negative side if it's not going well.

"But that's the way of the world, that's a football manager's role.

"If you don't accept that you've got a problem, so you have to take the plaudits and the grief that goes with it. You have to keep plugging away and try to turn it around.

"I believe we can turn it around because there might be teams seven points in front of us who might lose two and if we win one, it suddenly changes completely.

"If we win one and draw one, we're suddenly right behind them and they might start twitching – it will happen."
