Blackburn Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has confirmed that midfielder David Dunn will miss the weekend clash with Hull City after suffering renewed calf problems in training this week.

The 29-year-old has been suffering with an injury for a couple of weeks and has been unable to shake off the problem in time to face the Tigers.

Allardyce told the club’s official website:“He was looking good until Wednesday, but it looks like he might have overdone it a touch and just felt the calf again.

“So I don’t think that we’ll risk him this weekend in the hope that we might get him back for Birmingham in midweek and from there on the very heavy schedule we have over Christmas and January.

“It should have cleared up by now, but sometimes niggles with David last a little bit longer than other people.

“That is just the make-up of the person, when you’ve had a few injuries like David has you get a little bit more apprehensive and worried about it.

“But certainly there isn’t any point in taking any chances because if he came back in too soon and it went again, then he’d be out for a lot longer, so we’ll be as careful as we need to be until he says he’s 100 per cent fit.”
