realmadridArsenal and Liverpool’s hopes of securing a January move for Rafael van der Vaart has been dealt a blow after the Dutch winger expressed his desire to remain at the Bernabeu.

Van der Vaart has been linked with a move to the both the Gunners and the Reds in the past few months and was expected to quit Spain next month, after Bert van Marwijk warned him his place in his Dutch World Cup Squad was in jeopardy unless he was playing regular first team football.

However Van der Vaart has found himself restored to the starting line-up under Manuel Pellegrini of late and the 26year-old is determined to remain at the Bernabeu, until the end of the season at least before deciding his next move.

Van der Vaart said: “My intention is to finish the season here and see out the contract that I have with Real Madrid.

“I am very happy and believe I am playing very well at the moment.”
