How do you solve a problem like Aaron Lennon?

aaron-lennonDavid Ginola wasn’t wrong in claiming that Aaron Lennon is Tottenham’s key man this season and his absence is likely to hurt us considerably. Three games played in a week, two draws and one defeat and it is fair to say that we have lacked some fluidity in our play and much needed width on the right; Kranjcar and Hutton did their best, but to be honest they hardly represent the same threat.

The loss of Aaron Lennon is a problem that Harry Redknapp needs to resolve and quickly, especially as he is likely to be now out for a further month following his breakdown in training this week. It is important time of the season with games coming thick and fast and Harry needs to find a solution sooner rather than later.

So how does Harry go about solving Lennon’s absence in the team? I personally don’t think that Kranjcar looks comfortable on the right as I feel he is far more effective cutting in from the left hand side, especially with his excellent shot at goal that he possesses. Bentley of course is an option and the most obvious replacement and Harry needs to weigh up whether they should put their personal indifferences aside and give him the chance to finally prove he has a future at White Hart Lane. I think he deserves the opportunity personally and he would bring a natural balance to the midfield.

The other alternatives is to perhaps restore Jenas to the right hand side, a position he played under Martin Jol during his time in charge, or perhaps put some faith in Kyle Naughton who can also play right midfield as well as right back. Naughton hasn’t the skills or trickery of an Aaron Lennon, but he does posses great pace and would offer us a presence on the right hand side that would keep the opposition on the back foot. I’m sure his crossing and delivery can’t be any worse than Hutton’s, therefore Naughton is certainly worth a gamble. The only other options are both Keane and Modric, but for me both would be lost out there and out of their comfort zones.

So how does Harry solve the problem that Lennon’s absence has created? Should he gamble on the likes of Bentley or Naughton to fill the hole on the right, or is he better off persevering with Kranjcar out on the right?

Easiest question ever. Answer: Giovanni Dos Santos!
He is just as good if not better than Lennon at running at defenders with pace, can beat a man, has a clever touch, and eye for a pass, and a much better shot than Lennon. He loves to play the right and cut in with his menacing left foot. Why he doesn’t git a chance in the team is a conundrum.

We have players in Danny Rose and Gio Dos Santos that can help. If Modric is our only ‘worldclass’ player then why did ‘Arry see the need to move him around the midfield against Leeds? Moved him outside to accommodate Jenas when Palacios came on then over to the right when Keane came on. Jenas should’ve been taken off instead of Rose, who did well when he had the ball and tracked back well. Instead of worrying about our Aaron Lennon problem we need to sort out the Jermaine Jenas situation with Huddlestone out injured.

He doesn’t get a chance because Arry didn’t sign him from portsmouth. Besides, with the way redknapp likes to play players out of position he’s probably waiting to play dos santos at centre back.

Managers never win. Few months ago Harry was the Houdini. Now he’s getting into your hair and you people can’t wait to root it out because of his ‘decisions’ and the ‘options’ he’s taking. Ha… the world of football ehn.
