drogba-torres415With many expressing their opinion on who are the world’s top five marksman, I introduce my opinion on the subject.

Fernando Torres – The Liverpool Number 9 has become one of the most deadly strikers on the planet, terrifies opponents with his blistering pace and sharp turns. Torres has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water and during his time in England has notched up an impressive 62 goals in 104 games in all competitions. There are few better in the country but where does he rank among the best in the world?

Didier Drogba – Somewhat different to Torres, but equally as good, Drogba is a striker defenders do not wish to play against just ask Philippe Senderos because of his power, speed and strength. The Ivorian international is a beast on the pitch and whilst he was prone to diving around on the pitch, he has reinvented himself to transform into a feared marksman. Drogba has the ability to score a goal out of any situation with which ever part of his body; he is powerful on his left, right and head. Drogba will hound you and test your limits and once you left your guard down he will exploit and punish.

David Villa – Another Spanish international but a different player from Torres, whilst El Nino holds the pace David Villa holds the football know-how to not only create defence splitting runs but also has a great knack at being at the right place at the right time. David Villa has shown his ability to the world and has been recognised as a great goal scorer by winning the Golden Boot at Euro 2008. If Villa had moved to a greater club than Valencia he would possibly be the best striker in the world.

Luis Fabiano – Not many peoples choice but Luis Fabiano ticks all the boxes of a great striker and performances in the last 18 months have got him linked with a big money move to the likes of Manchester United and AC Milan. The Sevilla star is a magnificent forward who acquires an array of talent, with his greatest attribute the ability to score from any given situation. Fabiano with ease turns away from most defenders to slot the ball past the goalkeeper. He’s quick, powerful and has a great eye for goal. Luis Fabiano has exploded onto the international scene, most recently receiving the Golden Shoe for the Confederations Cup in 2009.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – The most expensive striker in the world worth just over £60million (€69 million) is not like the other four strikers mentioned before. Ibrahimovic is a not just a great striker, he is a magnificent footballer. He holds the skilful ability like no other striker in the world, the ability to beat 6 to 7 men with ease and still have the cheek to take on the goalkeeper as well and score. When looking at Zlatan Ibrahimovic you would not be able to believe the things he could do with a football, at 6”5’ he has immensely quick feet and holds a bagful of tricks including keepy uppies with a piece of gum. The Swedish international may not be one of the fastest strikers but he what he lacks on pace he makes up for in power, creativity and goals. He has flourished in his new found role at the spearhead of a three pronged attack at Barcelona scoring 11 in 15 league games.

Well, the fact you’ve missed out Rooney makes this article pretty awful. He’s easily ahead of Torres at the moment and on his day better than Fabiano and Ibra so…

Wayne Rooney was the one person who was always on my mind when writing this article, but on the basis of the last 12 months and not just this season what has Rooney done for him to deserve a place in this list. Torres scored 12 goals in 15 Premier League games last season whilst Rooney scored the same amount in 30 games. Not doubting Rooney’s ability, by far he is on par to becoming on the shortlist for the Ballon D’Or this season. As for eto’o he has been out shown by Diego Milito, it seems like since his departure from Barcelona he is not really into playing. Ibrahimovic has been in blistering form for Barcelona, has totally settled in with great link up play with Messi and co

Simon, Rooney is on top form, and Torres is injured, so it isn`t a suprise to me that he is at the moment, but when both of them are on top form, Torres would be most peoples pick between those two.

But nevertheless, I do think that Rooney is almost up there with Torres, Villa, Drogba and Ibrahimovic. But then again, as the author of the article said, Rooney’s efforts (in terms of goalscoring) the last year have really not been anywhere near what you should expect from a top-5 striker.

IF YOU ARE PRIMITIVE, YOU WOULD AGREE WITH THE LIST, BUT AS OF 2011, THE TOP 5 STRIKERS ARE:
    1. LIONEL MESSI
    2. CHRISTIANO RONALDO
    3. DAVID VILLA
    4. GUISEPPI ROSSI
    5. EDINSON CAVANI
IF YOU THINK ROONEY SHOULD MAKE THE LIST, YOU ARE TANGLED IN THE BRAIN, SEEK PSYCH AID. HE IS FIRST ON THE WORLDS TOP 5 OVERRATED PLAYERS.
