Bolton's caretaker boss Chris Evans has admitted he is in the dark over if and when Owen Coyle will be appointed as the club's new manager.

Coyle has been placed on gardening leave by Burnley while they attempt to thrash out a compensation packed with the Reebok Stadium outfit for his services.

Evans was at the helm of the Trotters for last weekend's FA Cup third-round win over Lincoln City following the sacking of Gary Megson.

However, he does not know whether he will still be in charge for Saturday's Premier League trip to Sunderland.

He explained:"People have been saying to me, 'Chris, are you going to be here for the next game?'.

"You don't know if you are going to be here for the next day. Football changes overnight and we know that.

"Destinies of individuals have to be put on the back-burner for now. I personally have a duty of care to all the rest of the staff that I try to keep them on an even keel, positive and looking forward.

"So whether (coach) Steve (Wigley) or myself or whoever else is here, I'm sure when the time comes the chairman will be the first to sit me down and let me know what his thoughts are."
