Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy has rubbished continuing talk of his club preparing a move to sign Stoke City striker James Beattie.
The 31-year-old former England international has been linked with a move away from the Britannia Stadium following a recent bust-up with manager Tony Pulis, but McCarthy insists that Wolves are not among the interested parties.
He stated:"There have been no discussions at all about James Beattie. There have been no discussions with Beattie and none between Wolves and Stoke about him.
"Of course, when we read about the fall-out we all said 'I wonder what has happened there', but there have been no discussions and I didn't make an inquiry.
"I was amused the other day when I saw the story spreading. I was agog at it all. Maybe someone should have checked with me, but the story just kept running."
City boss Pulis recently told The Sentinel:"I'd expect Mick McCarthy to ring me if they were interested and he hasn't.
"(Wolves chief executive) Jez Moxey also has good contacts here at Stoke and I'm not aware of anything happening with him."
